Making Art Accessible to People with Dementia

About a week ago, I shared this link on my Facebook, but in case you missed it I wanted to share this interesting article from Art Therapy Blog.  This article is special to my heart because my sweet grandmother suffers from Alzheimer's.

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) has a new program called Meet Me: Making Art Accessible to People with Dementia. This is a resource that was recently published by the Department of Education and contains interviews with experts, information from an evidence-based research study, guides and more…all related to art, aging, and Alzheimer’s.

Here’s the description from MoMA’s site:

The Department of Education recently published Meet Me: Making Art Accessible to People with Dementia, a comprehensive resource for creating art programs for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers. All of the content from this publication is available on this easy-to-use website. You can read interviews with experts in the field of art, aging, and Alzheimer’s disease; learn about the findings from an evidence-based research study conducted by NYU School of Medicine to evaluate the efficacy of the Meet Me at MoMA program; review guides for creating arts-related programs in various settings; and explore works from MoMA’s collection through thematic art modules or by browsing the artwork section. In addition, this site includes special multimedia content pertaining to the Museum’s overall programming in art and dementia.
If this is of interest to you, we encourage you to check out the site MoMA created. There are descriptions, resources, videos and more about the program. In the coming weeks we’ll highlight some of these activities as well.
Below is a snippet of information about MoMA’s Alzheimer’s Project. If you’d like to learn more about the program, you can
go here.

What is The MoMA Alzheimer’s Project?

The MoMA Alzheimer’s Project is the nationwide expansion of the Museum’s outreach program for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers. Funded by a major grant from MetLife Foundation, The MoMA Alzheimer’s Project broadens the reach of MoMA’s programming through the development of resources that can be used by museums, assisted-living facilities, and other community organizations serving people with dementia and their caregivers. By conducting presentations and workshops at conferences and hosting in-person and Web-based trainings, MoMA has shared its experiences and resources with people across the country.

So interesting! I'm always amazed at the effect art can have on people! If you have time be sure to check out the website: http://www.moma.org/meetme/index

WONDERFUL SUNDAY!!!
My shop was featured on the front page of ETSY! I'm so excited about this, I've been a member of etsy for a little over a year, and I have dreamed of the day that one of my items would be right there on the front page!
Special thanks to  WANDA & KRYSTYNA for their awesome treasury that landed us on the fp. Check it out here:
